Ethernet cable for CCTV installs

This range covers Cat5e and Cat6 UTP cable in reel lengths of 1m, 100m, 305m, plus a Cat6A patch-length reel, in both internal-rated PVC and outdoor-rated PE jackets.

How to choose

  • Category (Cat5e vs Cat6 vs Cat6A): Cat5e suits standard IP camera runs; Cat6 and Cat6A give more headroom for higher-bandwidth links and longer-term proofing, following general Ethernet category conventions.
  • Conductor type: solid copper reels (e.g. the Cat5e and Cat6 100m/305m solid copper lines) versus CCA (copper-clad aluminium) reels — solid copper is generally preferred for fixed installs and PoE runs, CCA is a lighter-duty alternative.
  • Jacket and environment: PE-jacketed outdoor cables are built for external runs; PVC indoor reels (e.g. the Cat5e 305m grey reel) suit internal containment only.
  • Reel length: 1m patch lengths for cabinet/rack jumpers; 100m and 305m reels for first-fix bulk runs.

Always match conductor and jacket type to the run — outdoor PE cable for external camera drops, solid copper where PoE loading matters, and CCA reserved for shorter, lower-power links.

Ethernet — frequently asked questions

What's the difference between solid copper and CCA Ethernet cable?

Solid copper reels use pure copper conductors, generally favoured for fixed installs and PoE runs; CCA (copper-clad aluminium) reels are a lighter-duty, lower-cost alternative for shorter or lower-power links.

Can I use indoor Cat5e cable outdoors?

No — indoor PVC-jacketed reels are not rated for external exposure; this range includes separate PE-jacketed outdoor Cat5e and Cat6 options for external runs.

Should I choose Cat5e or Cat6 for a CCTV run?

Cat6 generally offers more bandwidth headroom than Cat5e, so it can be a safer choice for longer-term proofing, though both are present in this range across various reel lengths.

What reel lengths are available?

This range includes 1m patch-length reels alongside 100m and 305m bulk reels for first-fix cable runs.
