Who we are
CCTV Line Ltd is committed to protecting your privacy and personal information. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your data when you interact with our website and services.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor's IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in, to serve the right store, to remember your cookie choice, to keep a security record of activity on your account, and — only if you accept — to understand how the site is used. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not share your browsing with advertising networks.
Every cookie we set is listed by name, purpose and lifetime in our Cookie Policy, including which ones are only set once you have accepted them and how to change your mind.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. We will only share your business details with legal entities if required to do so or our IT partner if it aids your business needs with your consent.
Records of Activity on Our Website
We keep a record of activity on our website. This is separate from analytics: it exists so that we can investigate a disputed order, a suspected account takeover, fraud, or automated scraping of our catalogue and pricing.
What we record
Pages visited, and when
Actions taken — signing in and out, failed sign-in attempts, adding to basket, starting checkout, placing an order, requesting a quote, and downloading files
Your IP address
Your browser, operating system and device type (for example “Chrome, Windows, desktop”)
For staff accounts, changes made to records, along with what changed, and any refused attempt to access something
Where you are signed in, this is linked to your account. Where you are not signed in, it is linked only to a random identifier stored in your browser — not to your name, email or address — and, as explained in our Cookie Policy, it is only recorded at all if you accept analytics cookies.
What we deliberately do not record
Passwords, payment card numbers, or security codes — these are stripped before storage
The contents of web addresses after the ? — these can contain sign-in links and reset tokens, so they are removed
Keystrokes, mouse movement, scrolling, or the contents of what you type
How long we keep it
Activity records are held for 180 days and then deleted automatically. A smaller set of security-significant events — signing in, permission changes, staff accessing customer records, refunds and exports — is also written to our audit log, which we keep for longer because we may need it to defend or resolve a legal claim.
Why we are allowed to do this
For visitors who are not signed in, we rely on your consent, given through the cookie banner. You can refuse, and refusing is the default until you choose.
For signed-in accounts, we rely on our legitimate interests in keeping accounts and payments secure, preventing fraud, and being able to resolve disputes about what was ordered and by whom. We have weighed this against your interests: the record is limited to what is needed for those purposes, excludes the contents of what you type, is access-controlled so only specifically authorised staff can search it, and expires after six months. Every search of it is itself logged.
Who can see it
Access is restricted to named CCTV Line staff who have been granted it explicitly for support, security or fraud investigation. It is not available to staff generally, is not shared with advertisers, and is not sold.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your activity record, ask us to delete it, or object to it being keptwhere we rely on legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent for the analytics portion at any time through your browser's cookie settings. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at Sales@cctvline.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
We will keep your personal information only where it is necessary to provide you with our products or service whilst you are a customer. We may also keep your information after this period but only where required to meet our legal or regulatory obligations.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
