CAT6A cabling for structured data installs
This range covers CAT6A cable stock for fixed installation and patching, in shielded (F/FTP, S/FTP, U/FTP) and outdoor-rated constructions, plus a factory-terminated 1m patch reel.
CAT6A supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet over copper, extending the reach and headroom that standard CAT6 typically cannot sustain at longer lengths — useful when specifying camera backbones, PoE switch uplinks, or trunking between cabinets.
How to choose
- Indoor vs outdoor run: the Duct Grade F/FTD cable and the Connectix TruLAN F/FTP PE cable are built for external/outdoor and duct routing; the TruHD U/FTP LSFH cable suits internal containment where low-smoke performance matters.
- Shield type: F/FTP and S/FTP variants (including the 3m orange patch cable) add an overall foil or braid screen, generally preferred for runs near EMI sources or dense first-fix containment.
- Reel length: stock ranges from a 1m black patch reel up to a 305m grey solid-core reel for bulk first-fix cabling — pick reel length against run count to minimise joints.
- Burial use: the UKvision outdoor FTP reel is specified for direct burial applications.
Match conductor type (solid vs stranded) and shielding to the containment and termination method already in use on site before ordering in bulk.
CAT6A — frequently asked questions
What is the difference between CAT6A and CAT6 cable?
CAT6A is generally specified to support 10 Gigabit Ethernet over longer distances than standard CAT6, which can lose headroom at length; check the specific run distance against your switch requirements.
Can any CAT6A cable in this range be used outdoors?
No — only cables specified as outdoor or duct grade, such as the Duct Grade F/FTD cable and the Connectix TruLAN F/FTP PE cable, are rated for external routing; indoor-rated stock should stay in internal containment.
